DIAMOND

Diamond is probably the most extraordinary natural mineral that exists on our planet. With its unmatched brilliance and hardness, it is the most prized precious stone and it has an immense value in the world of jewelry. Throughout history, diamond has always been considered an object of desire by many civilizations. Its geological origins, rarity, remarkable physical properties and cultural significance make it stand out among all gemstones.

Natural diamonds are created around 140 to 200 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface, where carbon is exposed to extreme heat and pressure. Then, volcanic eruptions lead the diamond to the earth’s surface inside a stone called kimberlite.

Diamonds were discovered for the first time around 3 000 years ago in India, gathered from some rivers and streams. Indians loved diamonds for their brilliance and believed they were divine objects with protective and spiritual powers. With time, other countries became important sources of diamonds, such as South Africa or Russia.

Admired for their rarity and beauty, diamonds became a symbol of love, devotion and commitment due to their durability and resistance, which explains why they are always used for engagement rings. Its name is derived from the Ancient Greek word “adamas” which means proper, unbreakable, unalterable. This origin reflects the gemstone’s strength and permanence.

What makes diamond truly unique is its physical properties. This precious stone is the hardest mineral that exists, ranking 10/10 on the Mohs scale of hardness. You can only scratch a diamond with another diamond. Its quality is evaluated according to 4 characteristics, known as the 4Cs: cut, clarity, color and carat.

CUT

the most important of the 4Cs, it determines the brilliance, how effectively the stone reflects the light. Only a round diamond with 57 facets can be called “brilliant”. The key factors are symmetry, proportions, size and height.

CLARITY

it refers to the natural inclusions formed during creation. It is a key criteria that influences the diamond’s brilliance. In the absence of inclusions, there is absolute purity and optimal brilliance.

COLOR

it measures the presence or absence of tint. The colour is measured from D to Z, where D to H are diamonds considered as white. The more colorless a diamond is, the rarer and more expensive it becomes.

CARAT

The weight of a diamond or gemstone is measured in carats. One carat (1.00 ct) is equivalent to 0.2 grams.

These 4C were elaborated in 1931 by the Gemological Institute of America, one of the leading organizations in the diamond industry that certifies almost all diamonds in circulation. Besides the GIA, one of the best-known and most prestigious certifications are those of the HRD (Hoge Raad Voor Diamant) in Antwerp.

At Nayestones, we offer VVS1 and VVS2 diamonds in DEF colors, which are colorless diamonds with very very slight inclusions. It is a quality of exceptional whiteness and clarity. All our diamonds over 0.3 carats come with a certificate, it guarantees that the quality of the diamond has been assessed by an international organization such as the GIA or the HRD.

We also offer lab grown diamonds, which are artificially created and perfectly identical to natural diamonds in terms of chemical properties. The difference is that the creation process is man made and takes a few weeks in a laboratory while a natural diamond takes millions of years in the earth crust. As natural diamonds are a rarer and limited resource, they are also more expensive, but the quality of both is the same. At Nayestones, we offer white, yellow and pink lab grown diamonds.

Beautiful, unique and brilliant, the diamond is an expression of beauty and elegance. It can be offered on any occasion! Its durability makes it perfect for an engagement ring and it is the birthstone of April and the Cancer zodiac sign. Created by nature or lab grown, it is perfected through craftsmanship and is without a doubt the most precious gemstone you can have and offer as a gift. In the end, as we all know, diamonds truly are a girl’s best friend.
