PRASIOLITE

Prasiolite is a delicate gemstone with a soft green color. It is a quartz stone created naturally or synthetically by heat-treating amethyst. So in a sense, prasiolite is a green amethyst, but the terms prasolite or green quartz are more accurate.

Naturally formed prasiolite is very rare. Most stones available today are treated amethysts from Brazil, heated to obtain the green color. When these purple amethysts  are heated to temperatures of around 500 degrees, their color transforms. They usually take a yellow color, resulting in a citrine gemstone. When they take a pale greenish color, it is a prasolite. The result of the heat treatment cannot be completely predicted, but the place of origin of the amethyst usually influences the final color they will take.

It has a hardness of 7/10 in the Mohs scale and it is produced in deposits in Poland, Canada, and mainly in Brazil. The only known natural source of prasiolites is said to have been discovered in the 1950s in Brazil. The rarity and specific conditions required for its natural formation increase its desirability.

At Nayestones, we offer a pale and delicate shade of prasiolites, the result of heat-treated Brazilian amethysts. Its transparency and soft color bring light and softness, making it a beautiful jewel to have.
