CITRINE

Citrine has a beautiful color that can go from yellow to orange. It is one of the most popular and purchased yellow gemstones. Citrine is a variety of quartz and owes its distinctive color to a trace of iron in its structure.

Natural citrine is not very common, most of the stones in the market are created through the heat treatment of amethyst. When amethyst is exposed to a temperature of about 500 degrees, its color changes to obtain the yellow and orange hues of the citrine, or the green tone of the prasiolite.

Quartzes have been used in jewelry for thousands of years. It is known that citrine was used since Ancient Greece, where it was appreciated for its sunny and warm color. Today, citrines continue to be valued and are associated with light and vitality.

The principal producers of this stone are Brazil, Madagascar and Bolivia. These countries heat treat amethysts to bring out the golden color, a widely accepted practice. As other quartzes, citrine has a hardness of 7/10 on the Mohs scale.

Radiant and bright, citrine is a symbol of positive energy, optimism, prosperity and abundance. It is the top selling yellow to orange gemstone in jewelry and the birthstone of those born in November. Its durability make it a suitable stone for everyday use, and its transparency and color make it a beautiful option to bring light and warmth to any piece of jewelry.
